The Hormel Institute Community Outreach and Education team is seeking a skilled Spanish-English Interpreter and Translator for a short-term, temporary position. The role involves supporting the clinical study team in outreach, recruitment, and communication with Spanish-speaking participants. This individual will facilitate clear, culturally-sensitive communication and help bridge language barriers to support the recruitment and engagement of non-English-speaking participants in ongoing studies. As well as helping translate outreach and education materials for the public.
This position is part of The Community Outreach and Education Department. The Community Outreach and Education department consists of three major pillars to help carry out the Instituteâ™s mission of improving health and extending lives: education, community outreach, and clinical studies. The COE team engages with individuals through activities and events to educate individuals about operations at The Hormel Institute and within the larger scientific community, and to share resources aimed at improving health and wellbeing. The Hormel Institute serves as a site for ongoing clinical research studies so that rural Minnesota residents can be included in future healthcare solutions, and we work to create educational opportunities and activities that may inspire our next generation of scientists and help create an environment for all to be a curious place for discoveries. Focus of Job Responsibilities Participant Communication & Support - 60%- Serve as a liaison between clinical study team members and Spanish-speaking participants.
- Conduct phone outreach to Spanish-speaking participants to assist with study enrollment, provide guidance on completing necessary paperwork, and answer general study-related questions.
- Translate information during participant interactions as needed, ensuring clear, accurate, and empathetic communication.
- Aid in the recruitment of non-English-speaking participants by explaining study objectives, eligibility criteria, and benefits.
- Assist at recruitment events, booths, and COE activities to attract non-English-speaking participants, answer questions, and provide an inviting and informative presence for Spanish-speaking community members.
- Translate flyers, brochures, and informational documents from English to Spanish to support recruitment efforts and outreach and education materials for the public.
- Ensure that all translated materials are accurate, culturally appropriate, and consistent with IRB or other governing body standards.
- Actively participate in outreach events within the community, engaging with Spanish-speaking individuals to raise awareness of clinical study opportunities and benefits.
- Support COE team activities aimed at recruiting non-English-speaking participants, offering language assistance and cultural insights as needed.
Required Qualifications
- High School Degree or equivalent.
- Proficient in both spoken and written Spanish and English, with proven experience in interpreting and translating materials accurately.
- Ability to multi-task and successfully prioritize tasks.
- Strong organizational skills.

- Self-starting with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
